I’ve been hearing a lot about Eat Real’s ‘Hummus Crisps’ lately. A deliciously, crispy snack derived from chickpea flour and flavoured with a variety of herbs and spices. If you are familiar with my work you will know I am a huge chickpea/ hummus addict, so knowing that such a snack existed, that I had yet to sample, was driving me insane. Cue yesterday’s mission to find some….
My quest led me to a quaint, little, health food store, Well and Good just off Midleton High Street. It was a very unassuming shop, sat along side a Chinese takeaway, a café and a curtain and blind specialist, I was intrigued and excited. I love health food shops even though they are terribly expensive and sometimes kinda poncey (right?!)
Well and Good had an excellent array of products, and the first thing I saw upon entering? Hummus crisps! While I was there I took the opportunity to browse (much to Kerry’s dismay) and check out the rest of their range. And it was pretty extensive. Although not 100% veggie friendly, there were a lot of options to choose from including; Violife cheese in various flavours and styles, Veganaise, again in different flavours, tofu, sausages, dairy free spreads and creams, frozen meals including burgers, pies and various meat alternatives. There were also lots of plant-based snack and chocolate options, teas in every flavour, nut butters, a cool Middle Eastern inspired section, lots of pre-packaged nuts, seeds and vitamins and there was even a vegan friendly household cleaning section! Very impressed.
I left with 2 packets of the sought after Hummus Crisps and a block of Violifes Pizza Cheese (I assume they mean melty). Thankfully my small haul didn’t come with a re-mortgage, the crisps were a mere €1.05 for 45 grams and the cheese, €2.50 for 200g. Not bad as both products are imports from the UK. Overall I’m very pleased I found Well and Good, I would highly recommend it if you are ever in the Midleton area and need a good health food shop. I will certainly be returning before we head for home, probably for more hummus crisps!
